A pastel painting for the tropics!

Before Mum and Dad left Salt Spring on their journey home to Cayman (via my sister’s in Ontario), I managed to do a couple of pastels for my gallery there. This pastel was inspired by a photo I took while in Grand Cayman about 20 years ago. It’s one I’ve wanted to paint for a very long time. And so finally, I got to it! And I’m very pleased with the way it turned out. It was a one shot deal, done in about an hour and a half, almost as if it was done en plein air.   I used the same set of pastels I used for my most recent video, an 18-piece starter soft...

Celebrating 100 blog posts!!   Wow – 100 posts. I can hardly believe it! I think that’s something worth celebrating. I remembered when I first started blogging I wasn’t sure what in the world I was going to write about. It was all such a new idea to me. Well, within a few months, I got in the rhythm and now there’s sooooo much I want to write about but gosh darn it, there’s just not enough time!     A New Pastel Painting Demo Video   I am happy to say that I have another pastel painting demo video up on YouTube. It touches on how to paint a...

Self-portrait: 30 sketches in 30 days

At the end of September, inspired by artist Bill Creevy who was doing his own 30-day challenges, I challenged myself to do 30 self-portrait sketches in 30 days. And amazingly (to myself anyway), I did it!   Some days were easy and some days not so easy. Some days I made the time to do the sketch early in the day, some days I came screeching in just before the daily deadline. Most days I just picked up a pencil and got going. Then I decided to bring some charcoal in as I do love using it as a medium. There are also four colour pieces – two pastels, one with watercolour pencils that...
