Daily Painting – one last one from La Manzanilla

I’m back in Victoria, Canada, and slowly slowly settling back into the groove of the north. Wonderfully, the sun shone down this past Easter weekend and Cam and I spent much of Monday in the garden. It’s just beautiful right now, with flowers and leaves bursting forth, all awakening. Next time I’ll have a photo.     Daily Painting   Here is my last daily painting from La Manzanilla. I was drawn to the design the peppers made, particularly the shadows created by their stems. It took me awhile to arrange them to their best advantage!      ...

Daily Painting in La Manz – Poblano and Garlic

Daily Painting   I set up a sampling of vegetables for my acrylic painting class to paint (see my blog about the class) and my eye was taken by the contrast between the almost black poblano pepper and the white of the garlic. I had my next daily painting subject!                   Would that we could at once paint with the eyes. In the long way from the eye through the arm to the pencil, how much is lost!  ~ Gotthold Lessing (1729–1781)     First day of Spring!     Today during Zumba class, a parade of children came by....

Daily Painting in La Manzanilla – eyeglasses continued

Daily Painting   So I’m on my third daily painting of eyeglasses. (You can see the first one here and the second one here.) I guess a book was going to be the obvious accompaniment eventually and so sure enough, that’s what’s here – the book I’m reading at the moment, The Madonnas of Leningrad. I have to say, this daily painting was a challenge!!! Eyeglasses and an upside-down book. What was I thinking?? I got started and got so into what I was doing that I only remembered to take one more photo before the final so here are the three:             The second...

Daily Painting in La Manzanilla – the second one

Daily Painting   I can hardly believe I’ve been here in La Manzanilla, Mexico just over a week. Time does fly. I’ve been pastelling and have another daily painting to show you.   I do like the eyeglasses as a subject (see my previous blog).  I changed the surface on which they rested as well as their angle and their accompaniment. They are challenging for sure but such interesting colours appear as light comes through the plastic rims and also reflects on the, the bits that hang on your ears (what are those things called??).   And here’s the progression of that daily...

Daily paintings from La Manzanilla, Mexico – numero uno!

Saludos from La Manzanilla!   As delightful as it is here – sunny and warm, lovely people, beautiful long beach with hardly anyone on it – I have committed to pastel/draw/paint every day. I am determined to continue exploring new directions in my work as well as creating daily paintings. I have a box of soft pastels and six 9 x 12” pieces of Wallis paper (mounted) as well as a number of 6 x 6” pieces ready for daily paintings. I also have a few sheets of good drawing paper, charcoal and some hard pastels with which to experiment.   I have already done a couple of daily...
