Fernwood Art Stroll…and guess which was one of the most talked about pieces??

Fernwood Art Stroll

What a super weekend! The weather cooperated – sunny on Saturday, merely overcast with a slight dampness in the air on Sunday. Even though there were less people passing through this year than last, it was all about the quality of people rather than the quantity. Most visitors were most complimentary about the set up and my work, and I also had the opportunity to reconnect with some wonderful morale-raising fans. And the wallets opened – for an artist, that’s the best form of compliment there is!!

Here are a couple of photos of me (!) and the work hanging. Unfortunately I forgot to take photos of my guests 🙁  (Thanks to Cam for taking these.)

It was most rewarding to have so much work out and on the walls and it was pretty special to be able to talk to people about my work. What was most interesting was discovering the work that garnered the most attention. Two of these pieces are my more experimental works. I’ll show you one of them in this blog.

Most Talked About Painting (well one of them)

Drum roll please. “Man in the Doorway” was one of the two paintings about which people said, “I think that’s my favourite.” I’ll show it from its inception to final piece.

Canvas with gloss medium and scratchings.
Gessoed canvas with charcoal and gloss medium with scratchings. At this point I have absolutely no idea where this piece is headed. It’s all about experimentation.

Some black and gold paint introduced over the striated gloss medium
Some black and gold paint introduced over the striated gloss medium. I am now thinking this looks like a roadway between skyscrapers.

Blue and red paint now appear. Still wondering what to make of it.

"Man in the Doorway," acrylic, 10 x 10 in. Somewhere between the last image and this, I suddenly realized it wasn't the sky between tall buildings I was looking at but a doorway...which required a mysterious figure. And so here it is!

As is often the case, the photographed image doesn’t tell the whole story. I’d love to hear from anyone who actually saw the piece – what did you think of it?

What have I learnt from the feedback I received? Keep going with my risk-taking exploration full tilt!!

Next time I’ll reveal the other painting that received the most attention.

Thanks for being here!

🙂

  1. A very enjoyable Blog The man in the doorway is new to me and reserve comment until view original could venture a guess as to identity .all in all the presentation is very well done with lots of atmosphere Its obvious you enjoyed doing the showing

    1. Glad you enjoyed it. Too bad you couldn’t have made it to the Stroll. Next year!!! You’ll have to get over here sometime to see Man in the Doorway in person.
