MY LATEST YOUTUBE VIDEO
I’m really excited to tell you that my newest video is up on YouTube. It’s a similar demo to those I have done before but rather than running music along with the action, I’m giving a bit of an explanation as to what I’m doing. I would love to hear what you think. Do you prefer this new way or the music?
Here’s the final image:
BIRTHDAYS
Making my very slow way through Stephen King’s 11/22/63: A Novel which is about a man who goes back in time to try to stop Kennedy’s assassination by Lee Harvey Oswald. I realized today would have been Lee Oswald’s birthday!
And since my Dad’s birthday is on the 20th, I started looking up who was born on or around that day. So, just for fun, here’s a few. I tried sticking with artistic types and I mostly do as you’ll see:
Born 18th October
1697 – Giovanni Canaletto, Venetian painter
Born 19th October
1937 – Peter Max, Berlin, American psychadelic artist
1940 – Michael Gambon, English actor – loved his work in the Singing Detective. Have you seen the 1986 series? Check it out on youtube
1944 – Peter Tosh [Winston Hubert McIntosh], Jamaica, reggae musician. Well knowing my Jamaican connection (see a previous blog) of course I would include Peter Tosh! Have a listen to Mama Africa.
Born on my Dad’s day – 20th October – the big day!!
1435 – Andrea Della Robbia, Florence, sculptor
1620 – Aelbert Cuyp, Dutch painter
1632 – Christopher Wren, East Knoyle, Wiltshire, England, astronomer/great architect of for example St. Paul’s Cathedral.
1637 – Nicolaas van der Veken, Flemish sculptor
1656 – Nicolas de Largillière, French painter
1823 – Thomas Hughes, England, author (Tom Brown’s School Days) – just because!
1832 – Constantin Lipsius, German architect (d. 1894)
1854 – Arthur Rimbaud, France, poet/adventurer (Illuminations) – a poet who influenced so many – A sample of his poetry
1882 – Bela Lugosi, Lugos, Austria-Hungary, actor (Dracula, Plan 9 From Outer Space), (d. 1956) – hah hah – Dracula!
1890 – Ferdinand “Jelly Roll” Morton, New Orleans, jazz pianist/composer – love his stuff
1891- James Chadwick, English physicist – Nobel laureate in physics in 1935 for his discovery of the neutron – impressive!
1925- Art Buchwald, Mt Vernon NY, columnist/author (Have I Ever Lied to You) – made us all laugh…and that’s good for you!
1931 – Mickey Mantle, NY Yankee, home run slugger – 1956 Triple Crown – well everyone’s heard of Mickey!
1934 – Martin Landau, actor (Mission Impossible, Space 1999, Ed Wood) – couldn’t resist…and because we have Bela Lugosi in the same list, take a peek.
1940 – Robert Pinsky, American poet and Poet Laureate of the United States – have a listen (remember to click play when you get there)
1946 – Connie Chung, Washington DC – the first Asian and the second woman to anchor a major U.S. network news program
1950 – Tom Petty, Gainesville Florida, American classic rock singer (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) – as modern as I could get
Born 21 October
1911 – Peter Graves, London England, actor (Mission Impossible, Stalag 17) Remember this??
1917 – Dizzy Gillespie, [John B], jazz trumpeter, a creator of modern jazz…And Then She Stopped

Happy birthday to all you Octoberites!!
And then there’s my Dad. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you my dearest Dad. Wishing you many many MANY more AND a year of peaceful adventure and healthy happiness!!! With much love.
Until next time,
~ Gail

I loved the video! It was like magic- blank paper to art in 3 mins and the outtakes were brilliant!
I loved your video! I’ve been wanting to give pastels a try and have been meaning to contact you for suggestions on how to get started, but I think this video has covered it. Thanks for sharing!
Heather, if you have any questions about pastels, I’d be happy to try and answer! I am glad you found the video helpful 🙂
As a lifelong photographer who has taken up pastels in retirement I greatly enjoyed your video. I also prefer the commentary to the music sometimes used on these instructional videos. I feel hearing the artists description of what they’re doing in addition to the video adds to my understanding as a beginner. I would suspect this applies to anyone watching who’s looking for instruction. Thanks!
Terry, thanks so much for your feedback. I am glad to hear the commentary worked well for you and is comprehensible.
