IAPS ONLINE EXHIBITION

I promised to let you know when the IAPS (International Association of Pastel Societies) 2012 Online Exhibition was up and so here I am to say, go check it out – I’m in great company!! Just click here and it will take you to the show. I’m even more thrilled about my award (see a previous blog for more info) as I discovered there are only six prize winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and two honourable mentions) out of 74 juried entries from around the world.

Here’s the image again, in case you forgot 🙂

For those of you who are interested, the next IAPS Convention is in 2013. You can register by clicking here. I’m planning on being there!

IN THE STUDIO

So I’m back in my studio after my short jaunt to Ontario. I’ve started a new figurative piece (you’ll just have to wait to see it!) and also done a few warm-up quick sketches to get me in the flow again. Just for fun, I’ve included two of them. I was playing with using a limited palette and also giving myself 10 mins or less to get something down. I was working from photographs.

SKETCH of two guys in the street in Mexico, pastel on Canson paper, 8 x 5.5 in

This one was done using Unison pastels. I just took the side of my pastel and laid the colour down quick quick. I quite liked the way it came out.

Here’s the other sketch:

SKETCH of backlit figures, pastel on Canson paper, 8 x 5.5 in

I liked the way the light created the negative spaces around the figures. For this one I used Schminke. The pastels in this set are all pretty bright so I had to layer a bit to achieve a darker and greyed front figure (the model). Again, even though it’s only a sketch, I liked the way it turned out.

And just because it’s the season and I’ve recently returned from visiting her, here’s a photo of my sister Andrea hugging the Christmas tree we’d just put up!

ANDREA and Christmas tree 🙂

That’s it for now. Thanks for reading and thanks for sharing my blog with your friends and family. My subscriber list is growing!!!

Until next time,
