IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE

Yesterday, my honey and I went to see the movie, It’s a Wonderful Life, on the big screen. Cam had never seen it before (can you believe that??) and I’d only ever seen it on TV before. It was well and truly wonderful and as always, brought tears and laughter. It’s an important reminder about what’s important in life, what’s truly important – one’s family and friends. Made in 1946 and directed by Frank Capra, this classic still holds up as an old-fashioned story filled with duty, desperation, joy, and love. Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey is led by circumstance to consider committing suicide. It’s the job of Clarence Odbody, his guardian angel, to show George the value of his life….and that it’s a wonderful life he has.

Cruising the internet I came across a full version of the original black and white movie on YouTube (at least it says it’s the full version – I haven’t actually watched it). Here’s the link. There’s also a colourized version but I think that’s heretical so I am NOT including a link!! 🙂  If you want a whole heap of info on the movie, click here for wikipedia.

A favourite quote from the movie:

Clarence Odbody the angel to George Bailey: Strange, isn’t it? Each man’s life touches so many other lives. When he isn’t around he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he?

Lovely Clarence, Angel second class
One of my favourite moments of love recognised! George and Mary on the telephone to friend Sam Wainwright
George and Mary make a wish each on the drafty old house in Bedford Falls (on part of the 4 acre lot where the movie was shot)
George and Mary dancing the Charleston
In desperation, George goes to Potter, the scourge of the town, for help
George is reunited with his family once Clarence convinces him that …it’s a wonderful life!
Every time you hear a bell ring, an angel is getting their wings!! Look at the joy in George/Jimmy’s face!

You probably didn’t expect you were going to get a photo show from It’s a Wonderful Life but I couldn’t help myself. My excuse is that the movie is a work of art! I do like that movie and I’m very fond of Jimmy Stewart. I can’t imagine anyone else playing George Bailey. If you haven’t seen the movie, get you to the YouTube link, or the DVD or the cinema!!! And for those of you who have, what’s your favourite scene??
