Galeria La Manzanilla – a sampling of paintings

Hola!

I thought for a change I’d show you my gallery here in La Manzanilla, Mexico and some of the work of artists it represents.

I started at Galeria La Manzanilla in 2009 when Silver Mangini owned it. Over the period I was having my first solo show with the gallery in February/March 2011, Silver sold it to the current owner, Aby Ramos. Since then I have had another solo show of my acrylic work. A few pieces still hang in the gallery and I’ll give you a peek at them too.

2. The entrance showing the work of Guillermo Gil Gonzalez
2. The entrance showing the work of Guillermo Gil Gonzalez, whose solo show runs until end of March

Guillermo is the younger brother of Efren Gonzalez, a regionally well-known artist who also shows in Galeria La Manzanilla.

3. Efren Gonzalez, "La Manzanilla Street," oil on canvas

Efren Gonzalez has shown in galleries around Mexico and also in Austin and Houston, Texas. He’s versatile in oil, watercolour and pastel. Here is another style he uses:

4. Efren Gonzalez, "Mercado Nublado," oil on canvas

A student of Efren’s, Salvador Ortiz had a successful solo show at Galeria La Manzanilla earlier this year. Here are a couple of pieces by him that I rather like:

5. Salvador Ortiz, "El Tucanazo," oil
5. Salvador Ortiz, “El Tucanazo,” oil

6. Salvador Otiz, "La Morena," oil

One of my favourite artists shown by Galeria La Manzanilla is Edward Gilliam. This year I was disappointed to find only table tops painted by him so here’s a video link to a 2011 show at the gallery. The table tops are gorgeous none the less. Here are a couple:

7. Edward Gilliam, "Jazz Latino," oil (on canvas it says) and wood
7. Edward Gilliam, “Jazz Latino,” oil (on canvas it says) and wood table top

8. Edward Gilliam, "Tres Mujeres (Three Women)," oil on canvas on wood - tabletop

A Canadian artist who spends half her time in La Manzanilla and half in Vancouver is Carol Lopez. Here are a couple of her oils:

9. Carol Lopez, "Sombillos Abstracto," oil on canvas
9. Carol Lopez, “Sombillos Abstracto,” oil on canvas

10. Carol Lopex, "Colourful Tarps," oil on canvas
10. Carol Lopez, “Colourful Tarps,” oil on canvas (I am particularly enchanted by this painting – I love all the colours evident in the darkness beyond)

An artist I greatly admire is Ernesto de la Pena Folch. Unfortunately there is only one painting of his in Galeria La Manzanilla at this time as his work is in great demand. This piece was hanging in a corridor so it was difficult to photograph.

11. Folch, "Coco Enamorado," acrylic
11. Folch, “Coco Enamorado,” acrylic – always love his designs, colours and textures.

And here is the work of a few other artists in Galeria La Manzanilla:

And finally, a couple of views showing my work:

19. A view in Galeria La Manzanilla showing my acrylics. (Not sure who made the vases….)

20. Another view of Gail Sibley's work in Galeria La Manzanilla

Hope you enjoyed the wee tour of the gallery. You can see more at the Galeria La Manzanilla website. The video you see on the home page was made just after a joined the gallery in 2009. You can see, briefly, three of my small pieces on the middle shelf to the right at timing 3:52 of the video. Right at the start of the video, you’ll see many pieces by Folch. You’ll also see more work by Edward Gilliam and Efren Gonzalez. Here is the link to my work on the Galeria La Manzanilla website.

I think that’s it. You know I’d love to hear your comments on any of the paintings.

Ciao for now!!

~ Gail

One more, just for fun!
