Daily paintings from La Manzanilla, Mexico – numero uno!

Saludos from La Manzanilla!

As delightful as it is here – sunny and warm, lovely people, beautiful long beach with hardly anyone on it – I have committed to pastel/draw/paint every day. I am determined to continue exploring new directions in my work as well as creating daily paintings. I have a box of soft pastels and six 9 x 12” pieces of Wallis paper (mounted) as well as a number of 6 x 6” pieces ready for daily paintings. I also have a few sheets of good drawing paper, charcoal and some hard pastels with which to experiment.

I have already done a couple of daily paintings and have one to show you. I kinda forgot to take progressive shots so I only have three photos – start, middle and end! I have to say I am really pleased with this piece.

Initial charcoal drawing for daily painting
1. Here’s the initial drawing in charcoal. I feel wicked – I didn’t even do a thumbnail sketch for it but I did have my handy dandy viewfinder which helped define the parameters of the work.

Halfway through the daily painting
2. Here I am about half way through. I have the main parts down. Now for some details and highlights.

The daily painting is finished
3. And here’s the final pastel. I think this one would have been a good example for a video. Perhaps when I get home and into my studio, I’ll get those glasses out again for another pastel and record the process. The daily painting is 5.5 x 5.5 in.

If you are interested in purchasing this pastel, let me know. I’m offering it for $100 just because.  Once it’s in the gallery, it will be $275 (framed).

I will continue to create daily paintings every few days and share some with you.

The new moon approaches and the night sky is illuminated with stars. It takes my breath away.

Thanks for accompanying me on my artistic journey,

PS. Okay, couldn’t help myself…..here’s the beach. You can see how crowded it is!

And here’s a few friends I played Bocce Ball (pronounced botchi ball) with last night on the beach. Yup life here is just soooooo tough.
